Fly fishing is a growing sport. It is more of an art than it is about catching a fish. The experience is about nature and understanding your surroundings. Fly fishing takes you on an adventure in the wild. It immerses you. The point is to get away and decompress. Defragment, If you will.
There are many forms of fly fishing. It all depends where you are and what type of fishing you want to do. Fishing rivers, streams, lakes, and salt water Flats all require different techniques. What is important is understanding where the fish are eating, what they are eating, and how they are eating it. Fly Fishing is the art of reading the “hatch” in order to properly present an artificial fly. I personally prefer using a dry fly (on the surface of the water), others like to fish sub surface via soft tackle on the swing, using a nymph rigs/euro nymphing, some love to throw streamers “the meat” and potentially hook a ”fatty”.
Successfully hooking a fish using a fly rod is 98% dependent on the fisherman; rarely do you hook a fish by luck. Understanding what to do once a fish is hooked takes time and practice. It is not hard, it just takes repetition so it becomes second nature. Once you hook the fish you must quickly adapt so you do not lose it.
Landing with a fly rod is about adapting to the fish. It is not about brute force, quiete the opposite, it is a game of finesse. The bigger the fish the more you will have to work the line/drag. The key is to tire the fish in order to bring it in.
